The Art Gallery at North Hill

Drawing: Stretching the Line

Featuring Debra Weisberg, Laura Evans, Ruby Silvious, Sue Freda, Sandi Haber Fifield, Jenny Carpenter and Susan Schwalb

Drawing: Stretching the Line is a North Hill and Danforth Art Museum collaboration that deconstructs drawing, highlights its core traditions and unconventional, and stretches the definition well beyond its customary borders. The exhibition is divided into three sections — each exploring a different element of drawing. The third floor Avery Gallery explores traditions in drawing through the use of pencil, charcoal, graphite and pastel. The fifth floor Avery Gallery explores the impact of a core element of any drawing — the mark.

The Art Gallery is focused on unconventional tools and surfaces being used by contemporary artists. We have chosen artists who work with alternative materials such as tape (Debra Weisberg), twigs (Laura Evans), tea bags (Ruby Silvious), wire (Sue Freda), altered photography (Sandi Haber Fifield), birch veneer (Jenny Carpenter) and silver point with copper brush (Susan Schwalb). Several of the artists will be participating in the Gallery Talk.

Join us for an Artist’s Reception as we celebrate the opening of our new exhibit, Drawing: Stretching the Line, at The Art Gallery at North Hill.
