Chance is the Starting Point: Exhibition and Reception, September 19, 2018 3pm
The work shown in this exhibition is by four Olin College Students who were members of the Advanced Digital Photography course taught at Olin in the Spring of 2018 and their faculty mentor, Dr. Helen Donis-Keller. Each student produced a commercially printed book and two images from each book are shown here. Dr. Donis-Keller has selected examples of her work that speak to the beauty of historical Istanbul and Venice that underscore the inherent fragility of the built and natural environment. The title of the Exhibition refers to the process of producing fine art photography. A still photograph captures a moment but much more is involved in bringing that moment to its finished state. The moment may serve as a nucleus for further investigation and it usually involves meticulous editing with digital tools and deep reflection.
