Resident Highlight: Anne Weaver

Anne Weaver from north hill

Anne Weaver didn’t have a plan for life, but she had diverse gifts and an avid enthusiasm for service, so life made a plan for her.

As the child of a hospital-based physician who was also a musician, she was exposed early to science, medicine, and music. Her early aspiration was to be a nurse, not unusual for a young woman of her time, but at every turn, she found herself with music.

She was playing the flute by the fourth grade and teaching it not long after. She performed as a soloist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and at the Kennedy White House with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra. All by the time she was 15.

Anne didn’t plan to major in music at Wellesley, but its refrain kept calling, so she danced to the tune. Performing, teaching, directing a church choir, earning her Master of Music degree and happily raising a family with her husband Bob – it seemed a musical life was the one she would always lead.

But a different path emerged. While being treated for breast cancer, Anne felt the call of Medicine. Pre-med at Mt. Holyoke led to the University of Massachusetts Medical School at Worcester. At mid-life Anne was a physician with her own primary care practice. An Internist and Pediatrician, she met her youngest patient in the delivery room. Her oldest patient was 104.

Anne shares all she’s gained from her extraordinary achievements to enrich the lives of her neighbors at North Hill. She performs at recitals, plays for Memorial Services, works on shows and concerts, and sang in the chorus. Her frequent medical talks edify North Hill residents on various aspects of health care and healthy aging. She is co-chair of the Resident Health Care Committee, and organized and led the North Hill Doctor’s group.

Anne’s powerful influence is seen and felt in every corner of the North Hill campus. Her reach extends to the well-being of team members; the fiscal health of the organization; and the intellectual health and social vitality of North Hill residents. She is a leader, a caregiver, a friend, an advisor, an influencer, and a continual agent for positive change. All this, and she never had a plan.
